General English (CRICOS Code: 070205G)

The General English course is designed to provide students who have a language ability of elementary to advanced with the opportunity to further improve their English language skills. Students may enrol in the course to develop their English for general purposes or to refresh their skills before undertaking further study.

Each component of the course aims to improve students' general English level. Once the course has finished, students should be ready to enter the next class. The general English classes also form a basis for students to move on to more specialised areas such as the IELTS Test Preparation course.

From 2 to 50 weeks

Examinations are conducted monthly and include reading, writing, speaking and listening tests. The assessment is based on the modules studied within the four-week periods. The test is hand-written, except for speaking, which includes presentations, dialogues and peer evaluations. Teachers conduct face-to-face interviews after each test to provide feedback on progress.

General English at Cambridge College is a communicative course. Students will develop their English language skills through a range of tasks designed to develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as improving their pronunciation and knowledge of grammar. The course methods of delivery also embrace the digital age to make it more interactive and appealing to students. Teachers at Cambridge College incorporate a variety of new, digital components into the lesson using video material, doing online research and using an online platform – MyEnglishLab. The platform brings a variety of interactive online learning activities to support course delivery and give more practice to learners.
